Hok Kiu Cindy Shum

Hok Kiu Cindy Shum (she/they) is an artist based in Hong Kong and the unceded traditional territories of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish), and səlilwətaɬ (Tsleil-Waututh) Nations, also known as Vancouver. Working primarily in painting, her practice explores the emotional and psychological relationships between individuals and their environments. Her work engages themes of place, memory, and uncertainty, often reflecting on shifting senses of belonging and displacement.

Shum approaches painting as a way to translate emotional states into atmospheric and spatial compositions. Drawing from personal memory, photography, literature, and everyday surroundings, she creates ambiguous environments that hover between abstraction and representation. Her recent work expands on diasporic experiences through fragmented landscapes and dispersed clusters of small to large-scale paintings.

Shum received her BA (Hons.) in Visual Arts from Hong Kong Baptist University in 2023 and her MFA from Emily Carr University of Art + Design in 2026. Her work has been exhibited in Hong Kong, Canada, and South Korea.

沈學翹是一位現居香港及溫哥華的藝術家，主要以繪畫為創作媒介。她的創作探討個體與其所處環境之間的情感及心理關係，並持續關注地方、記憶與不確定性等主題，反思歸屬感與位移經驗在流動中的狀態。

沈氏將繪畫視為一種轉譯情感經驗的方式，透過氛圍與空間的建構呈現情緒。她從個人記憶、攝影、文學及日常環境中汲取靈感，創造介乎抽象與具象之間的曖昧空間。近年的創作進一步延伸至離散經驗的探索，透過破碎的地景、漂移的地平線，以及由不同尺度畫作組成的系列作品，思考身份認同、遷移與歸屬之間複雜而持續變動的關係。

沈氏於2023年獲香港浸會大學視覺藝術榮譽文學士學位，後於2026年獲加拿大艾蜜莉卡藝術與設計大學藝術創作碩士學位。其作品曾於香港、加拿大及南韓展出。
